Just a quick tip. If you try to install Java in a fresh Ubuntu 10.04 system you won’t get very far as the Java moved to the Partern repository. To fix this open the command line and write:

sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://archive.canonical.com/ lucid partner"
sudo apt-get update

Then you can install your Java
